This article examines the calling of women from the perspective of Edith Stein and its relevance to contemporary church life. Despite the significant contributions women have made throughout the history of the church, they are often marginalised in leadership roles and active participation. This research aims to explore Stein's thoughts on the identity and role of women to address the challenges faced by women within the Catholic Church. Drawing on literature studies and a comprehensive analysis of Stein's works, this article demonstrates that an understanding of women's experiences and callings can enrich pastoral and theological practices. This study aims to connect Stein's philosophical insights with contemporary gender issues and provides practical recommendations for enhancing the voice and role of women in ecclesiastical life. Consequently, the article contributes to the discourse on gender justice within the contexts of theology and pastoral care, while providing a fresh perspective on the role of women in the church's mission in the modern era. The conclusion drawn is that Stein's thought remains relevant and can be applied to foster a more inclusive environment for women within church communities.
Abstrak
Artikel ini mengkaji panggilan perempuan dari perspektif Edith Stein dan relevansinya bagi kehidupan Gereja Katolik masa kini. Meskipun perempuan memiliki kontribusi signifikan dalam sejarah gereja, mereka seringkali terpinggirkan dalam peran kepemimpinan dan partisipasi aktif. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mendalami pemikiran Stein tentang identitas dan peran perempuan sebagai solusi untuk menjawabi tantangan yang dihadapi perempuan dalam Gereja Katolik. Dengan menerapkan metode studi pustaka, dan analisis mendalam terhadap karya-karya Stein, artikel ini menunjukkan bahwa pemahaman akan pengalaman dan panggilan perempuan dapat memperkaya praktik pastoral dan teologis. Penelitian ini berupaya menghubungkan antara pemikiran filosofis Stein dan isu-isu gender masa kini, serta memberikan rekomendasi praktis untuk meningkatkan suara dan peran perempuan dalam kehidupan gerejawi dalam konteks Gereja Katolik. Dengan demikian, artikel ini berkontribusi bagi diskusi mengenai keadilan gender dalam konteks teologi dan pastoral, serta menawarkan perspektif baru tentang peran perempuan dalam misi gereja di era modern. Kesimpulan yang diambil adalah bahwa pemikiran Stein tetap relevan dan dapat diterapkan untuk menciptakan lingkungan yang lebih inklusif bagi perempuan dalam komunitas gereja.
